4th Feb 2025 3:56PMThe Tasman Glacier Ski Patrol was a response to growing demand for day skiing in the Tasman Glacier Neve. Mount Cook Airlines ski planes took relatively inexperienced people to Tasman Saddle from where they were to make their way down to Darwin Corner to be recovered later in the day. Initially Rangers accompanied each party. When demand and potential risks outgrew this approach, it was decided to that a more formal safety service should be set up.
