DescriptionIan Blackmore recalls: On Boxing Day 1965 a Columbo Plan student Anek Chelling was reported overdue while climbing to the Ruapehu Crater area. A search ensued and we located him - very luckily for both him and us - inside Dome Shelter. The weather had turned atrocious and we were stuck in the Shelter for three nights, with little food etc. It made headlines in the newspapers of the day. Photo taken as we arrived at the 'Top of the Bruce'. People are from left, Peter Fletcher Ranger, John Baxter Trainee Ranger, Anek Chelling (the rescued one) and me, Senior Ranger.
