Lomas de Lachay National Reserve (5,070 hectares), 1.5 hours drive north of Lima, is one of several natural vegetation remnants called lomas on the 250Okm Peruvian coastal desert strip where it never rains. The vegetation which was supplemented by planting eucalypts depends on the neblina, which is localised winter fog sweeping in from the Pacific Ocean. Park Staff constructed "cloud catchers" and the moisture was funnelled to water the plants.

The Reserve was a popular visiting point for school groups in the winter when the harsh dry skeletal vegetation turned to soft greens. The Reserve was also grazed by goats.
