Wally, as Chief Ranger Urewera Nat Park, gave me my career start in Nat Parks management via work in all the school holidays in 1965, then full time work with him until Ben Thorpe (then Assistant Supervisor of National Parks) appointed me in the next trainee ranger intake. I think John Baxter got his start via the same path with Wally & Ben a year
earlier.
Ben died in July 2015, and Wally in August 2016
