Taken in the kitchen/dining area of the Single Men's Quarters at TNP Whakapapa early 1967. Pat Sheridan (right) had completed the National Parks Authority 4 year training course, this was his first year as a graduate ranger. Mike Clare (centre) was doing the semi- obligatory year as a park board 'trainee' ahead of his appointment to the NPA's national ranger training programme. Myself (left) had just entered the NPA's training programme after spending 15 fabulous months with Chief Ranger Wally Sander at
Aniwaniwa in Te Urewera NP.
We were all very young - that's a bottle of milk I'm drinking Not sure when the change to more amber coloured liquid happened. This accommodation was new and very flash by comparison with single staff digs in most of the NP's in the mid '60's. And very warm too with electric panel heaters in every room -
sheer luxury!
We were of course very house-proud as can be seen by the state of the dining table. I suspect this photo was taken to mark the unusual event of actually cleaning up...Pat wiping the bench, Mike sweeping the floor, and me disposing of the surplus milk.
