DescriptionThe snow cat owned by Grant Horner and Warren Newlands at the crater lake in 1974. This was the 3rd over-snow vehicle to operate the route from Knoll Ridge to the crater Lake via the Whakapapa Glacier. Earlier 'home grown' versions operated in the '50s and '60s with varying success. This imported Canadian vehicle was popular with skiers, but operating days were limited by weather and snow conditions. The machine was eventually acquired by Ruapehu Alpine Lifts to transport equipment and groom snow on the ski field, possibly the 1st of many subsequent machines in that role.
