From Turangi I applied for and got the Senior Ranger position at Arthur’s Pass NP. Moved in April 1985, stayed there 11 years. Again spent a lot more time on search and rescue, the natural sciences of the place. Ian Blackmore was the Chief Ranger, then for a very short time Bill Mannix was Chief Ranger, but he resigned. In early 1986 I became Chief Ranger - the last before the Lands and Survey went out of existence and DOC was established in 1987.
