Ray [Cleland] developed this round National Park symbol for the Park, and later managed to get it adopted in all of the national parks. They were the same throughout, except for the name of the park at each locality. They were erected at park entrances, in huts, trailheads, and were prominent on the front mudguard of most parks boards land-rovers. There was a lot of pride in being associated with this logo. I think it remained in use until the early 1970's. By then Lands & Survey had extended its operations and appointed reserves rangers throughout NZ, so reserves and national parks rangers were integrated into a unified service with a new 'National Parks and Reserves' logo.
