I have a background of work in conservation and heritage management. I was a past ranger/ conservation officer for DOC and still work in the field of conservation as a contractor to DOC,  mostly in the heritage interpretation field.   

I first worked for Lands and Survey as a summer student undertaking track maintenance on many of the Wakatipu Reserves. This was in the mid-80s (1985/86 I think) in Queenstown. I did a summer as DOC guide on the summer visitor programme at Lake Waikaremoana  then worked for DOC in Queenstown ( Neil Simpson was my boss) in late 1980s. My first job there was undertaking the research and writing and implementing the on-site interpretation the Skippers Recreation Reserve. ( I worked with the late Brian Ahern also on this project)  Other work included 3 seasons as a hut warden on Great Walks, (My Aspiring and Fiordland NPs) as well as undertaking various interpretation contracts eg on Stewart Island in 1991. I’ve spent much of the first few decades of my career working in National Parks particularly in the South Island. I became a Conservation officer/ Public awareness in Fiordland 1995-end 1999 and worked under the Late Dave Wilson ( Area Manger)

I have worked for and alongside a number of earlier rangers connected to the group.  I have a particular interest in interpreting the natural, cultural and historic stories at key visitor sites and since 2004 I have run a business called Telltale.  Most of my work is focused in Otago, Southland and the West Coast of the South Island.
