Description These stories are from the Ranger Book Archive (2008). They cover the period from before the park was established in 1955 till the transition to DOC control. There are many stories about guiding, mountaineering and Search and Rescue. and many people from the early days of mountaineering are mentioned. This is the story of the park from being purely a mountaineers playground to a conservation-focussed park with a managed village and professional guiding and search and rescue services. The contributors were:
